China, with its growing economy and international influence is seeking to expand its horizons. Not satisfied with being the world's warehouse or the world's manufacturing station, the nation is looking to grow as a leader in the field of education, technology, and also increase its influence in global matters. In recent years, China has made large investments in quality research in its universities, providing its students and researchers with the latest technology and inviting renowned professionals to share knowledge. The nation has made impressive strides in the field of computer technology, especially manufacturing, and also in genetic research. In 2002, Chinese scientists won the HUGO Prize for Genetic Research. To achieve its goals, the nation has made some strategic moves in foreign relations. In January, the Greek Prime Minister visited China and they signed a joint statement aiming to increase cooperation in education, research, security, and also the upcoming Olympics in China. Greece and China will provide scholarships for students to attend each other's universities. They will also have government-certified language programs to encourage cultural exchange. On the business side, the Greece-China business council is organizing a three day "Greece-China Economic Forum 2006" in Athens. It aims to attract investment and foster understanding within business community of the two nations. The number of tourist arrivals in Greece from China is also rising. China sees Greece as an important partner in the EU and with Greek support for one Chinese policy, both nations are looking forward to a fruitful relationship. Sources:
